Documents You Need to Rent a Car in the Dominican Republic
If you are a tourist wondering whether you can rent a car in the DR without a local ID, the answer is yes. Here is exactly what you need to bring.
What You Need to Bring
A Valid Passport
Your passport is your primary form of identification with us. No Dominican cedula is required. Make sure it will not expire during your rental period.
A Valid Foreign Driver’s License
Your home country license is accepted, as long as it is current and valid for the duration of your rental. No Dominican or international permit needed.
Minimum Age: 21 Years Old
You must be at least 21 years old to rent a vehicle from Primeway.
Minimum License History: 2 Years
Along with meeting the minimum age, you need at least 2 years of driving history on your license.
A Payment Card for the Security Deposit
A security deposit is required at pickup. The deposit amount and damage deductible are confirmed at booking and outlined clearly before you sign.
What You Do Not Need
- A Dominican cedula or national ID
- An international driving permit, in most cases
- A local address or Dominican bank account
Additional Authorized Drivers
If more than one person will be driving during your rental, every additional driver must be listed on the rental agreement with their own valid ID and driver’s license at pickup. Only people listed on the signed contract are authorized to drive.
